Recently, a 70-year-old woman came to see me to discuss a facelift procedure. She was still very young at heart but when she looked in the mirror, the person looking back at her, didn’t seem to match how she felt inside.

She and her husband knew my parents well and I had in fact operated on her 20 years previously. After listening carefully to her desired outcome, I felt a face/neck-lift would indeed give her the result she was after.

She was keen to proceed, put down her deposit and 2 weeks prior...

I’ve been called many things in the past, including some unrepeatable quotes from my wife, however today was the first time I was called a fairy god-mother. I was seeing my 52-year-old patient, a mother with 2 children, who 7 weeks previously had undergone a bilateral breast reduction.  I had removed around half a kilogram of breast tissue from each side.

After both of us laughed, I asked why? “Because you have granted me my wish.” She went on to say that her backache, neck ache and shoulder ache...

This week I have been preparing for an article on Mummy Makeover, due to be published in the July edition of Vogue Magazine. It just so happened that I was seeing several patients who have either had a Mummy Makeover or are considering it. A Mummy Makeover is a combination of procedures, usually involving a tummy tuck and breast procedure (lift, augmentation or reduction), ideally performed at the one operation.

One of my patients, let’s call her Jenny, is a 50-year-old woman with 3 children. Jen...

This week I replaced a 70-year old woman’s silicone-gel breast implants. She had her first breast implants inserted as a 30-year old by a high-quality surgeon and the same surgeon replaced her implants 20 years later. She came to see me recently because, over time, her breasts had become hard, heavy and distorted in shape. In other words, she had developed capsular contracture around her implants.

Whenever something foreign is put inside our body, our body tries to wall it off with scar tissue in...

Glenys and I have known each other since we were teenagers, which makes us both in our 60’s. Our parents were best friends, so I was honoured when she came to see me for a Facelift. In particular she hated her neck and she thought her face was aging faster than she felt within herself. She had stopped wearing lower necklines and necklaces because she didn’t want anybody focusing on her neck.

Two months after a MACS Facelift, Glenys returned to my office. Her girlfriends are amazed because they ar...

In early December, my EA Jacqui and her daughter Georgia, travelled to Sydney for our end of year festivities which were combined with the staff from Kim’s dental practice. The highlight was lunch at the magnificent Jonah’s restaurant on Sydney’s northern beaches, where I was joined by my daughter Rebekah (our communications consultant), Kim’s daughter India (about to commence dental training in Melbourne), Bryden and Sophia.

We were transported to and from the restaurant by Sydney Seaplanes, wit...

Labiaplasty has been the fastest growing cosmetic procedure in 2017. Several women have told me how they were self-conscious from the age of puberty when they noticed they were different from their sisters or school mates. The popularity of Brazillian waxing means the enlarged labia are hard to hide along with the discomfort caused by wearing tight underwear or clothes.

More women are choosing to have this procedure performed in the rooms under local anaesthetic. A strong numbing cream is applied...

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to be interviewed by Ms. Ricky Allen, the editor of the Cosmetic supplement for VOGUE Australia. We discussed the rising interest in a natural breast augmentation using fat transferred from an unwanted area of a woman’s body. The article was printed in January’s edition and the response has been very positive.

I use the technique developed by my plastic surgical colleague, Dr Allan Kalus. To date the results have been very pleasing for both patient and surgeon...

The annual conference of the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) brought together world class presenters and the cream of Australia/NZ plastic surgeons. Sessions on Breast Implantation and Belkyra (the non-surgical treatment for double chin) were excellent.

The highlight for me were the sessions on Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL), because Australian Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons are leading the world in diagnosis and treatment of this rare potential complication of breas...

Which woman would want to take fat from an unwanted area of the body and transfer it to her breasts? LOL. If you answered ‘every woman’ you are just about right!

I have been performing fat transfer from one area of the body to other areas for most of my practice life. Using liposuction to remove fat then transferring it to the face or body is a common thing to do. However, until recently, plastic surgeons have been restricted by our medical insurers from transferring fat to the breasts.

Just a few...
